Violence
Saturday, June 13:
We arrived in the early hours of yesterday, around four I guess, but I'm not sure because I hate wearing watches. Being aware that time exists makes the trip longer, and I want to get back home soon. The show is in a few days and everything is finally ready. These days will be less stressful than draining and exhausting. I've picked up the habit of scratching my neck while I read, which unfortunately is a lot, because I spend my time in the rooms with the lyrics, practicing my vocals. Rony slaps my hand every time he catches me doing it. And yet, the closer the day gets, the more my whole skin itches.
Tuesday, June 16:
Today's the show and I'm dying. I didn't dare leave the hotel room. The first few days it didn't matter because I was rehearsing with Rony, just the guitar and me, but yesterday I couldn't stay in because of the damn sound check and the stage rehearsal. In the car on the way to the Teatro de las Tres Lunas, I felt my arm burning just above the elbow. When I checked, I saw a big red stain on my shirt sleeve. I rolled it up and saw almost two centimeters of my right arm with no skin; my blood was running fast, as if it wanted to escape the danger of my body. I asked Rony to help me and he asked for a bandage. Travis and Ian asked me what happened, but I didn't know what to say. While Ian bandaged me, Rony noticed blood under the nails of my left hand and said, “You fucking idiot.” He made me show him my neck, where they told me I had several scratches and long, thin scabs. When we got to the theater he told me, “Cut the crap and your stupid fears. I swear, from now on every time I catch you scratching I'm not gonna hit your hand, I'm gonna hit your head.”
Today I have bruises on my hands from Rony's hits, big scabs on my arms, bits of skin on my hands and blood under my nails. Rony promised he'd find something to calm me down before our show. I just hope everything goes well.
Wednesday, June 17:
The concert was better than I expected. The vodka Rony got me helped, maybe too much. He still hits me when he catches me picking at my scabs and a little more flesh, but I don't feel it; I only get scared when I see the blood reach the floor. My whole arm is covered in scratches and wounds that, if this keeps up, could become serious. On top of that, the vodka, besides taking away my fear of performing in front of the crowd, makes me kind of violent. That's why I threw the mic stand at Ian, who luckily blocked it with his bass before it hit him. I don't know if I'd want to say I remember doing it; I really don't. Still, I think I'll need alcohol for the next show. I just hope I can control myself better. Ian wanted to hit me when the concert ended, and his brother Travis cursed me out and said I was crazy. Rony calmed them down, saying nothing bad had happened and “fuck it,” the crowd loved it. I think Travis also didn't dare hit me because the only place I don't have serious wounds is my face. Ian felt insulted and punched me under the eye. I'd have liked to hit back, but I went straight to the floor and many of my wounds started bleeding again. But anyway, it seems I don't need anyone else to hurt me.
